Achievements:

  •  
  • Sleep laboratory for diagnosis of sleep related breathing problems was first established in 1997 in our department, and was the first sleep laboratory in a public hospital (second in any hospital) in Mumbai and Maharashtra. We are doing this by monitoring breathing, heart rate and oxygen during sleep. Night time recording of respiratory variables is done using a small monitor, Densa-200 and 32 channel polysomnography.

  • Various international drug trials conducted with GCP guidelines, including late phase II trial with a new molecules.
  •  
  • Besides the Pharmaceutical Sponsored Studies other important studies conducted in our department are:
    -   Etiology and Treatment Outcome of Community Acquired Pneumonias (Collaborative study with P D Hinduja Hospital, Norfolk and Norwich and James Paget Hospital England).
    - First Community Based Study in India on Prevalence of Sleep Apnoea.
    - Comparative Study on Prevalence of Chronic Airflow Limitation.
    - Diagnosis and Treatment of Tuberculosis and Multi Drug Resistance Tuberculosis.

  • Published over 100 papers in various national and international journals.
  •  
  • Gold medal Oration on pulmonary function test awarded to Dr J M Joshi in Vizag AP State TB conference 12-13 April 03.
  •  
  • Gold medal won by postgatraduate student in M D exam in year July' 2003 and 2004.
  •  
  • Second prize won by a postgraduate student in year Nov' 2001 National pulmonary conference (NAPCON).
  •  
  • Only public hospital to have conducted Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Smoking Cessation programme.
  •  
  • Only public hospital to have unique facility for management of Multi Drug Resistant TB with the help of medical social worker (MSW) department.
  •  
  • Organized National pulmonary conference (NAPCON) in Nov' 2001.
