Special Achievements:

  • Formation of third pediatric unit in 1994.
  •  
  • Our hospital was amongst the first to be recognised as a baby friendly hospital and the department conducts regular workshops in lactation management. Lactation management workshops are conducted every year during the breastfeeding week in the month of august for postgraduate students in pediatrics, obstretics and PSM departments.
  •  
  • Civil and renovation work was completed in the pediatric opd area in May 2001, The department renovation was completed in October 2003.
  •  
  • Full fledged running Paediatric Asthma care, Pediatric Neurology care and Lactation management OPD, Pediatric Nephrology and Rheumatology OPD, pediatric Gasteroenterology OPD.
  •  
  • Our staff members have represented the institution at national and international meets delivering guest talks and being chairpersons and moderators.
  •  
  • Intensive pediatric care services commenced in early seventies and have been recently upgraded and equipped with state of art equipment's to manage critically ill children. The civil and renovation work was completed in September 2002.
  •  
  • A level III NICU was started on 2nd floor of OPD bldg in April 2001. The unit has a capacity to admit critically ill 20 neonates and 5 intermediate care beds.
  •  
  • Civil and Renovation work of the Pediatric ward was completed in May 2002and further beautification and creation of the child friendly ward was undertaken in May 2005.

  • GCP-ICH Multicentric trail on combination DTPwHB vaccine - completed.

  • GCP-ICH Multicentric trail on Hepatitis vaccine - ongoing.

  • Clinical evaluation of the efficacy and safety of DRF/Ay/4008 as an appetite stimulant in children with non pathogenic anorexia.

    Global Network Project:
  •  
  • A Pilot study in colaboration with university of Marryland, Baltimore was conducted from Jan. 2002 to July 2003. In phase I (July 2003 to Jan 2005) an infections surveillance of study of neonatal sepsis on 465 babies was completed.

    PMTCT project on HIV and AIDS in mothers and childrens:

  • PMTCT feasibility study using ZIDOVUDINE was done by NACO and UNICEF from March 2000 to September 2001 and a second study using Nevirapine prophylaxis was conducted between October 2001 and September 2002 for preventing transmission of HIV from mother to child. Counseling services and comprehensive care is provided to mothers and babies.
