History:

The Neonatology unit of the Department of Pediatrics of Topiwala National Medical College has been functioning independently for more than ten years with a full time staff of Professor, Associate Professor and/or Lecturers.

Supportive Care:

    		•  Delivery Room Management: Trained personnel attend the delivery, anticipate problem & promptly manage them. The emphasis in the delivery room is:
    - Neonatal resuscitation & stabilization of the baby
    - Early identification of congenital anomalies
    - Initiation of lactation
  •  
    		•  Other Supportive Care: Warmth, Infection control, Nutrition & Feeding.

    Teaching & Training:

    		•  We provide adequate training facilities in Neonatology for postgraduate students /residents working towards obtaining their degrees or diplomas in:
    - MD Pediatrics
    - MD Obstetrics & Gynaecology
    - Diploma in Child Health
    - Diploma in Gynaecology & Obstetrics
    - Diplomate National Board in Pediatrics & Gyn-Obst.

    		•  We also undertake training of:
    - Undergraduate students studying for their MBBS degrees.
    - Nursing staff working in the unit.
    - Other healthcare professionals in workshops on Breast feeding, Lactation Management & Neonatal care when organised as part of the Baby friendly hospital initiative.
