All registered candidates are provided with free residential quarters and are also assured residency postings for 3 years with certain leave benefits.

Those who have completed three years residency programme (with or without postgraduate qualification) are considered for appointment as Senior Resident in General Surgery for the tenure of one year. These posts are advertised and details are available at NRE Section, T.N. Medical College, Dr. A.L. Nair Road, Mumbai - 400 008; in the month of January.

The residents are rotated to various units in the department. If possible they are also exposed to various superspecialities for some time.

Observership:

1-3 months observership, clinical internships or student exchanges are available for all postgraduate subspecialities in surgery. Surgeons or surgeons-in-training are given priority over other physicians for this programme. Qualified surgeons should send in an application on plain paper with a photocopy of their post graduate degree certificate in surgery to the following address:

Residents-in-training could seek waiver of this fee in their application form. Unfortunately it is not possible for the institution to arrange for accommodation and observers from outside town are advised to arrange for the same before their arrival in the city. Students applying from other countries must get prior permission from Medical Council of India. This needs an application to be sent to NRE Section, T. N. Medical College, Mumbai - 400 008.
