Seminar Hall: The Department has an air-conditioned Seminar Hall with seating capacity of 60 for academic meetings, symposia, workshops, etc.

Gastro Enterology Surgical Services (GESS): The department runs a Specialized GESS - OPD on the second floor of the New Hospital Building on every Wednesday & Saturdays between 11:30 to 12:30 pm. The GESS Department is well equipped with various types of Endoscopes.


Department of Surgery:

This department is a large teaching department in the country both in terms of clinical services provided and the surgery-training programme. A variety of diagnostic and interventional surgical, laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures are performed. The department has a very active teaching schedule for residents besides conducting refresher courses, it also provides opportunity for observership for those from other departments / hospitals outside the country.

The Department of General Surgery of B.Y.L. Nair Ch. Hospital & T.N. Medical College is one of the busiest departments of this institution. It is concerned with top quality surgical services & teaching facilities to various medical courses. On the teaching front the Department of General Surgery conducts Undergraduate course of MBBS offered by the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik which is recognized by The Medical Council of India (MCI) with intake capacity of 120 undergraduate students. Postgraduate course of MS (General Surgery) offered by the University of Mumbai (recognized by The Medical Council of India) is conducted with intake of 7 P.G. students per year.

  • OPD: The department consists of the following Full Time General Surgical Units which are recognized by the Medical Council of India for conducting Undergraduate (MBBS) course offered by the MUHS and Postgraduate course (MS - General Surgery) offered by the University of Mumbai.   • General Surgery Wards: Four male surgical and two female surgical wards are situated in the Main Hospital Building. In addition, there are 45 beds at Dr Bhajekar Hospital about two kilometers away from the campus of Nair Hospital.

  • Operation Theatres: There are four Operation Theatres in the main operation theatre block on the second floor of the main hospital building. Besides, there is one operation theatre with two operation tables at the Dr. Bhajekar Hospital

    Dr. P.P. Shilotri has been an Executive Committee member of the Association of Endocrine Surgeons of India (a chapter of The Association of Surgeons of India). He is a faculty member of Medical Teaching Technology Cell of TN Medical College.
