Research Activities:

The department conducts out various collaborative research projects funded by the Government of India and Pharmaceutical industry:

  • Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India:
    Extensive in vitro, experimental and clinical research is being carried out in the area of NIDDM (non-insulin dependent Diabetes Mellitus).
  •  
  • Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI), Government of India:
    A clinical trial is being carried out in patients with alcoholic hepatitis.
  •  
  • Department of Biotechnology, Government of India:
    In vitro anti-mycobacterial studies and anti-cancer studies with plant extracts is being conducted.
  •  
  • World Health Organisation:
    - Phase I study of surveillance of drug use and its correlation with
      anti-microbial resistance patterns in the Community has been completed.
      Phase II study to develop sustainable measures to promote rational drug
      use in the Community is to be initiated.
    - Updating of Standard Treatment Guidelines (STG) for MCGM.

    Assessment of prakriti and its co-relation with Host defence against infection.

  • The department is recognised as the ICMR Advanced Centre for Clinical Pharmacology of Traditional Medicine.

  • The department is in-charge of the Clinical Pharmacology Unit funded by Dr Reddy's Laboratories.
